The Versatile Blogger Award

We rise by lifting others – Robert Ingersoll

First and foremost, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude for thegirlonthego08 for this award. She owns a very “colorful” blog and writes about almost everything from manga to movies and folktales – her blog is indeed a depiction of “beautiful diversity”. You will surely enjoy your visit to her blog.

My blog is truly honored for this wonderful award. Most especially for the thought behind the nomination. Once again, “Thank You” thegirlonthego08 of wordscan’

Here are the Rules:

  • You have to thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog! (Being kind)
  •  Link the nominees and inform them about their nomination (passing the love, that was given)
  • Nominate at least 15 bloggers of your choice (At least)
  • Share 7 facts about yourself (being truthful)

Seven (7) Facts about Me:

(N.B.: These are all basic facts, as I’ve written about the hardcore ones in some of my awards nominations, haha. If you have the luxury of time, you can read the One Lovely Blog Award , The Valiant Blogger Award and the Blogger Recognition Award  later on 🙂 )

  1. I love coffee. And I think I’ll love it more only if I know how to properly operate the coffee machine, haha.
  2. I’m a voracious reader and I think, by now, I can already categorize it as sickness. I read even those instruction labels on manuals which were written on languages that I don’t understand! Hope I’m not the only one in the world! Haha
  3. I have a pet dog named Yellow and I love and adore her. Good thing is that she won’t be able to know that I prefer cats more than her species. (Be that as it may, I still wrote a post for her here at my blog. Many commented she’s adorable!)
  4. I live in one of the 7,107 beautiful islands of the Republic of the Philippines. Luckily, I’m not on one of those that disappear on the face of the planet during high tides!
  5. Apart from writing, I love sleeping as well. Most of the time, the 2 battle for attention!
  6. I love pasta, cheese and donuts.
  7. My parents once told me that I’m the most handsome person in the world. Of course, I didn’t believe them the time I saw Brad Pitt’s photo.

Blogger Recognition Award

Lucky me! I got three nominations for this award from three awesome fellow bloggers! It was such an honor for me (and my blog) to be chosen amongst the hundreds or even thousands of their followers, for that, “Thank You” from the bottom of my heart! I’m humbled as much as I’m honored for the recognition Karen of Karen Viramontes, thegirlonthego08 of wordscan’tfathom , Jake of Jake’s Journal and Sanjita of Cluster of Stars. Keep rocking the blogging world! Um, I mean, keep up the good work guys! I’m just pumped up by this, haha.

If you want to participate in the Blogger Recognition Award, here are a few simple rules:

1. Thank the blogger that nominated you and provide a link to their blog.

2. Write a post showing your award.

3. Tell a brief story about how you started your blog.

4. Give two pieces of advice for new bloggers.

5. Choose 10 other bloggers to nominate.

6. Comment on each blog letting them know they’ve been nominated, and provide a link to your award post.

I started knowing absolutely nothing about blogging besides you just need to write about something. And so I wrote. I have to admit that my first post wasn’t perfect; technically-wise, it’s a mess and all, but in the end, it turned out me being proud of it. That was, She’s Wild! An ecstatic & sensually pleasurable alone time (I know, I also have an issue choosing sensible titles for my posts, I’m still learning on that haha!) Needless to say that my blog site’s title also transitioned from Odds and Ends to Simply Writing before finally settling up with Thought Avenue:Speak your mind.

From that first post came others published occasionally, on average, one post every two weeks. Back then, blogging, for me, was just a pastime, I didn’t take it seriously simply because [outright] I got overwhelmed by all the outstanding talents we got here in the blogosphere. I asked myself then: “What can I write and share to others that is worthy of reading and that Google hasn’t written already?” And by “written” I meant archives upon archives of works which are all very well-written by extremely-gifted writers and bloggers! Miraculously, I came to realize that if I dwell on that mindset, I will not be able to write anything at all. Google doesn’t know my own views and opinions, beliefs and convictions, dreams and aspirations, joys and pain – my life story. And so, I “accepted” blogging and upgraded it from pastime to a hobby. Since then, I was somewhat became committed.

Sadly, five months back, on September 2, 2016, a tragic experience happened within the family, I lost my beloved mother. And to cope with grief, I started to blog and post articles more frequently. Blogging apparently became my therapy – it took my mind off the pangs of grief for a period of time whilst writing and eventually soothes my emotions after I’m through with each and every post. I must say that blogging helped me make it through, and that remains true until today. To know more about how blogging continuously helps me, you can visit my post: The Valiant Blogger Award.

As of now, I don’t know yet where blogging might lead me in the coming days. And I suppose blogging, per se, hasn’t yet upgraded into what can be categorized as a passion for me; although writing is. Just like my personality and my life, I think my blogging experience will unfold into something else BETTER [hopefully] as time passes by. As I’ve written in my About page: [my blog bears an invitation welcoming you] “…to hear my thoughts, tune in to my voice and join me in  my journey through LIFE.” My Life’s Journal, if you will, “warts and all”.

I’ve been seriously blogging for five months now.

Forget it! Don’t even think about stepping across that dreaded line. Once you do, there will be no coming back. Just Kidding! That’s one of my favorite line growing up, haha. Just like life is never gentle to the faint of hearts, blogging also is! In a way that it takes courage to subject your works to the mercy of the world. Whew! But the upside to it is fulfillment as a writer/blogger. Seriously, here are my humble advices:

Just write or do your own thing. Don’t be pressured by the expectations of others, nothing was placed upon you. After all, it is your blog. Be completely sincere, honest and truthful in your posts – that way they will truly make a big difference. Always bear in mind that anything written and published out there in the web has a chance to reach and affect someone, somewhere else.

Engage. More than writing and posting anything, the blogosphere is a thriving community. People interact through comments. That’s what makes blogging absolutely worthwhile and enjoyable. Create connections. Just a word of caution and brotherly advice: be sincerely appreciative (press “Like” if you really like a post) and be polite (don’t press anything in the keypad/keyboard if you find some posts otherwise ‘un-likeable” to you), remember all the efforts put together into a certain post and the amount of courage summoned by the author to press “publish”. We all have our own blogs to post about our personal views and opinions 😉

Happy blogging!

Valiant Blogger Award

The Valiant Blogger Award is for the blogger who is brave and courageous. It is dedicated to someone who, despite being faced with the most difficult obstacles in life, chooses to fight on and never give up. It is for the lionhearted, one who faces fears and challenges, who has become an inspiration to others along the way. This award was created by Liz C. of the Daily Warriors.

FOREWORD: Contrary to Rule No. 3, this post is more than 200 words. You would understand after you’ve read through it.

My love for my parents is one of the strongest emotions in my life. But in Asian culture, love is seldom expressed in words. Besides being Asian, male and an introvert, it makes me feel even extremely uncomfortable to tell “I love you” or to even share my thoughts and feelings with them. Our daily conversation was a combination of what I had for lunch and what they had for dinner.

The word courage, came from latin root cor – which means “heart”. For this post, the meaning of courage is to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart. I don’t know where to draw the courage to share my story with you, like I don’t have the courage to tell my parents “I love You”. They raised me with love, so much love. They made me believe I’m worthy of love not because of what I achieved but because of who I am. Yet I so desperately want to be this perfect child for them, I share my happiness and achievements and withhold my struggles and failures. Although I’m proud of my achievements, it did not come to me sooner that this “sharing and withholding” thing had created a huge gap between us and we no longer feel the joy and pain of each other’s life and journey.

Frankly, I’ve been on an extremely rough time in life these past three months; I was heartbroken and torn into pieces by the end of a 30-plus year life relationship with my mom. I’ve written how it had been so heart-wrenching on my part on my post A Message for the Woman I’ll spend the rest of my life Missing and the subsequent post about finding my own balance in Is “Goodbye” simply a word.  Many questions about unexpressed emotions, unsaid words of love and affirmations, hugs and kisses that were not delivered, kept ringing on my mind since then.

One time, I can no longer withhold my emotions, I broke down and I burst into tears. Luckily, my wife was there to break my emotional fall and absorb the outburst of all the pain and sorrow thru words spoken gibberishly that flowed right out of me. It hurts so bad, not just because of the loss of someone so dear to me but also by the lost opportunity to express all the love and care I withheld, in the sterile hope that a tomorrow is always guaranteed to come.

Sad but true, life stops for no one. Hence, I need to rise up from the ruins of my pain and guilt. Through the unconditional love, patience and support of my loving wife, I am able to face my emotional battles every day. This blog also became my therapy — a platform wherein I can express my emotions about life as well as my aspirations in life. Yes, if you’ve been with me and reading my posts since I started this blog, you would have noticed that all my posts were manifestations of my thoughts yet with the implied deeper purpose of anchoring myself up with my established ideologies, principles and convictions, in an attempt not to lose them whilst I’m fighting my own daily battles.

I couldn’t yet say that I have fully conquered and won that particular battle, and I don’t know when is the TIME that I can finally say I’m through with it.  Nevertheless, I am  somehow recently slowly gaining grip with my emotions. I owe it to the people around me, who loved me and are always there for me in this battle, including you, my readers and virtual friends here in the blogosphere. Your support to my every post, even your simple comments on each of them, solidifies my personal ideologies, principles and convictions and motivates me to keep on fighting. Because of that, Thank You, I’m getting by day by day.

I still have my dad. He’s a chronic stroke survivor for more than 4 years now. And every day I express my love to him and make sure he feels it. I have also my lovely wife and a family to whom I get courage and motivation in my journey pass grief and towards reconnection.

I don’t know if I deserve the nomination for this award, I’m just grateful for the opportunity to have shared part of my life story with you all.

Recently, the feeling of being “reconnected” (with my dad) after so many years is like magic. I didn’t expect that what feels so uncomfortable before felt so natural in the end.

My advice to those who are going through really tough times in their lives: RUN!!!

Ran towards those who love you and whom you know will understand what you’re going through. And just make it a habit to say “I Love You” to all your loved ones, will you? No matter the day or the circumstance.

Thank you Liz for creating this award which gives opportunity for people to inspire others through their resilience, courage and persistence in fighting the good fight of this so called Life

For my nominees: I nominate all my readers for this award. Like me, I know you also have your own battles in life. Hear from you soon.

P.S.: Liz, please forgive the few extra words.

One Lovely Blog Award

I was tagged for this lovely award sometime in the early December of 2016. It’s kind of late now for a reply, isn’t it? But a promise is a promise; and I promised the equally lovely blogger who nominated me for this – Liz at and I thank her for such a generous gesture! And for always throwing at me awards and nominations just like she heads and owns an award-giving body! Hahaha. Kidding aside, I’m thankful and grateful 😉 This was my second from her. Do check out her blog, it’s so inspiring and motivating, one of those which will help you get through any day.

Here are the Rules for said award:

  1. Thank the person that nominated you and leave a link to their blog
  2. Share 7 facts about yourself
  3. Nominate at most 15 people
  4. Tell your nominees the good news!

Seven (7) Facts about ME (*drum roll)

1. [I think] I am the ONLY person on this planet who has a Facebook that he DOESN’T own.

Yes, you’ve read that right! While everyone else is getting loco with Facebook, I, for reasons unbeknownst even to myself, seemed not to take interest in it. Not that I don’t like Fb at all, in fact I personally created my own account back in the days when I’ve noticed that I was the only human being who’s  still  using Friendster.

My significant other occasionally logs in and updates my Fb for it not to be deleted/discarded, phased-out, whatever, from the Web. She now basically owns it too, hahaha.

2. I am married to the most beautiful woman in the world. (Just in case she comes across this post!)

3. I am a coffee – boxer shorts – Netflix – rock’n roll – animal-loving type of person. I know. Absurdly COOL, right? I am!

4. I have a ridiculously “corny” sense of humor. It didn’t fully bloom into something enjoyable or at the least, entertaining, because my significant half [and I also guess everyone else around me] aren’t that supportive about it. Ever heard of dry humor? I’m a little bit above that, hahaha, but just a little bit below what can be categorized as embarrassing!

5. I love books so much that I’m obsessed to write one! So that by then, I can only love one and totally give away those others I own! Hahaha

6. This blog gets me through tough days. But most of the time, my significant half drags me me behind, pushes me forward or just decisively PROPELS me though such days!

7. When it comes to love, my cellphone comes next to God, my significant half, my family, friends, pets…all and everything I deem important to me!

My Nominees:

Pranitha             Maggie           Nina            Healing Gold           simplisticInsight

P.S. I’ve secretly able to manage to create another Facebook account purposely and solely for this blog. The moment my significant other reads this, that Fb will ____________ (I leave that to you to fill in the blank, haha). Glad if you could take a visit and like the page!

’til then!

Mystery Blogger Award

Before anything else, I would like to thank two of the lovely (inside and out) ladies who nominated me for this award, Liz and Nyse. In as much as I’m honored and thrilled for this, I am likewise anxious, edgy, tensed, (panicky?) -*insert every word you can think of which corresponds with the word nervous – in answering their respective sets of questions.

Because there’s this seemingly unwritten ancient policy which says that when a lady (ladies in this case – one undeniably good-looking and the other (can’t yet give a fair description due to the absence of available photos, however, she was widely known as the Queen of Awesomeness, and, for sure, that wasn’t for a reason, haha)) asked a guy some serious questions they apparently require some serious answers too, right? Disagree all you want, it’s still my opinion and I’m entitled to it, haha. And although I’ve emphasized some strong points about saying “No” on my post The “No” Way which I can use as a good excuse not to divulge any information  about myself [as a matter of personal security] by answering the  questions  set before me yet commonsense (or you can aptly say in the guise of being polite) dictates that I need to contradict those points in consideration of this award, hahaha. Who’s in his right mind would dismiss such a generously encouraging gesture?! You tell me…

Having said that, now I was forced, rather, left with the task of answering the hereunder sets of questions. So let’s get the ball rolling, shall we?

Liz’s Questions:

  1. What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime?

I want to have a book published in my name. I’m still in [most people] would consider as ‘midlife’, so, factor in the equation the progress climate change is covering on a daily basis plus the average life expectancy of a person in the world scale (without bias to territorial location and racial genetic  structures) I think that is still possible, haha.

  1. Describe your form of spirituality.

I’m a Christian. I believe that there’s a God who works for the good of all His children according to His will and timing. On that thought, Christianity has also taught me to love, accept and respect my fellow human beings without bias and prejudice as to belief, personal views, status and circumstances.

  1. What movie is close to the story of your life?

This is hard. Modesty aside, I was thinking more of James Bond or Jason Bourne movies, just kidding! Hahaha.

Seriously, I can probably relate with the character of Guido in the movie Life is Beautiful (La vita è bella), his positivism, his humor, and the manner in which he wooed the love of his life, Dora.

I’m an old soul, haha. No, maybe I just like movies that I consider with “real” stories to offer.

  1. Which author would you like to hang out with for a day?

I would say Steven Spielberg if he’s an author but unfortunately he’s not. So I’ll just settle down with Ernest Hemingway. I’ll have him explain his “grace under pressure” principle; I got a 2.0 in American Literature way back in college for not rendering a substantial elucidation of said principle in the context of the “lost generation”.

In retrospect, I think it was my professor’s fault, she just asked us to explain, she didn’t say “substantially” though. Anyways (*sigh*)

N.B.: Dearest Professor: Oh, you’re not implicated on this, the last time I checked your name was not yet changed to “professor”. So, *peace sign*

  1. (Weird Question) If you could read one person’s mind, whose would it be?

My wife’s. No further comments, haha

Nyse’s Questions:

  1. What is your number 1 goal in life?

Well, I must say that I struggle every single day to have a balanced life – with respect to spirituality, relationships and commitments, work, hobbies, all and everything in between.

As everyone else’s ultimate goal in life (generally speaking) – to leave a mark (even just an itsy, bitsy, tiny mark) of goodness to myself and to others whom I had [and will have] the chance to meet or to be with in this lifetime.

And, sorry I can’t help it, I must add: to publish a book in my name too! That’s my number 1.1!

2. Describe in three words the purpose of your blog.

Provoke. Motivate. Inspire.

3. If you could go back in time, to any period in history what year, and                where would it be?

Back at the time of Jesus’ (Christ) crucifixion. I want to witness the greatest event that took place in this planet which eventually sent ripples of change throughout the whole world up to this present times and extending further to the forthcoming generations.

Many great hearts wrote history through their mighty deeds but that one act alone changed all that are significant in this world, transcending all the barriers of time and changing the phase of humanity.

4. If you could be any animal, which animal would it be?

An ape, at least I would still have features closely related to humans. Plus, just as they say, history repeats itself, so just as when evolution takes its turn, voila! I’m human again!

Nah, I chose ape because they naturally resemble us. They’re like our animal counterparts.  You can view “humanity” in their actions – the way they care and nurse their young ones, the way they interact with each other, the way the establish hierarchy, their politics of coexistence, among many other traits.

5. (Weird): Does the books you read, affect the foods you eat?

Yes. There was this one time when a book that I was reading while having lunch fell and messes up with my soup. Soup did taste funny afterwards.

Weird question, weird answer, Nyse 😉

N.B.: This post also requires the nominees to share three (3) facts about themselves.

To that I can’t share any more details, if you’ve read my silly answers you can already pick out at least 20 or something facts about me! Well, apparently I’m a corny comedian as you’ve probably noticed by now, hahaha.

My Best Post:

My blog’s Top Posts & Pages corner reflects Breaking up with Medi O. Crity (I don’t know why?) but for me it should have been The “No” Way. But I have a feeling though that this post is going to be the ultimate Best Post for this blog, for one reason, among many others, this is written appurtenant to an award! Come to think of it, haha.

So as to keep the wheel spinning [as they say], I highly nominate the following kind and awesome bloggers for this award:

Carolyn                  Maggie                 Angy                   Lenny               Favour

My questions:

  1. What makes you bored?
  2. What is your favorite pastime and why?
  3. What is that one thing you would happily do again?
  4. What is your favorite body part of the human body and why?
  5. (Weird Question) If you were a bird, who would you sh*t on?
